Departing from your Buenos Aires hotel, you'll hop aboard the ferry and enjoy a scenic 2.5 hour sightseeing cruise across the Rio de la Plata en route to Montevideo. Upon arrival at the port, you'll capture spectacular views of the city and coastal Uruguay. Montevideo is one of the only continental capitals with a ring of beaches incorporated into its urban landscape. 

Montevideo is truly a cultural capital in South America and is home to many first-class singers and musicians. Your guided sightseeing tour includes visiting famous landmarks in both the old and new sectors as well a stop at one of the main theaters. The Solis, which was recently restored, was one of the first theaters in South America and a must-see when visiting Montevideo. 

Travel to the Plaza Independencia, one of the main squares in Montevideo and the separation of the old and new sectors. The plaza boasts the famous marble statue of General Jose Gervasio Artigas, a well-know South American military leader and national hero. You'll also be able to take pictures of Uruguay's tallest building, the Palacio Salvo. 

Also on the agenda is a visit to the famous Iglesia Matriz. Built in 1804, the Matriz church (or Metropolitan Cathedral) is Montevideo's oldest public structure and possesses the remains of some of Uruguay's most notable politicians and religious leaders.

In the old part of the town, you'll find a large number of cultural centers and museums which feature paintings and photography throughout the ages. Street festivals are very common in Montevideo so don't be surprised if you stop to admire the Candombe or Carnival shows. While the Carnival shows only operate in February, the famous Candombe takes place all year round.
